Hispanic Heritage Month Scarf - Preorder
The colors on the scarf represent the colors typically associated with Hispanic heritage month celebrations. The symbols within each panel represent various indigenous cultures throughout Latin America.
From the outside inward, we highlight the imagery of the Inca, the Maya, the Mapuche, and the Taino to show the vast differences and similarities across Latin America that give all cultures a distinct identity. The Inca and Mapuche imagery are just small examples to bring visibility to the ancient indigenous cultures of South America that are often left out, with the Inca culture being carried on by today’s Quechua while the Mapuche continue to live on today. The imagery of the Maya are just one of many examples highlighting indigenous peoples in Mexico and throughout Central America that have managed to persevere through various eras in history. The Taino imagery aim to highlight the rich cultures of the people of the Caribbean and honor their history.
Proceeds from the sale of the scarves will be donated to Salud America! to help in their mission to aid Latino communities towards improving child and family health and promote equitable health initiatives.
